The Quick Review

If you are looking for one of the lowest price electric tankless water heater yet still a reliable unit from a reputable company, the Titan N-120 is the water heater for you. While some even cheaper units exist in the market, the quality does not hold up compared to the Titan model. We do recommend spending a little bit more for a higher quality electric tankless water heater, if budget is a major concern, this may be the right water heater for you.

Capacity

The flow rate (or capacity) of this unit is 2 GPM with incoming water temperatures of 67 degrees or above, which would be ideal for the southern United States. This is on the lower end of what’s available in electric tankless, but is quite sufficient for a single bathroom home with a shower or with appliances like a dishwasher or washing machine that require hot water.

Installation

Installation is extremely easy and well documented. While professional installation is highly recommended, it is widely reported by do-it-yourselfers as being quite simple to install and taking less than 2 hours. If you aren’t comfortable installing an electric tankless water heater yourself, please contact a local plumbing or electrical professional.

Value

Most people report saving between $25 – $35 per month on their electricity bill compared with an electric heating tank. At that rate, it takes just under 2 years for this unit to pay for itself with savings, even with a professional installation fee attached. With a great manufacturers warranty to protect that return, it definitely makes financial sense to replace your electric tank with this electric tankless unit.

The Misses

Most tankless water heaters take a while for the water to heat up when you turn on the faucets, and this unit is no exception. It can take up to 30 seconds (in the winter) for the water to heat up, which is slower than conventional electric water tanks. This is one of the slowest heat up times of all reasonably good quality tankless water heaters available on the market.

The unit is also reported to be more noisy than expected which can be annoying in a small house, which this unit was designed for. That said, you won’t hear it in the shower and if it’s running with a washing machine, the noise won’t be heard over the appliance.

Our Recommendation

We only recommend this unit if saving money up-front is of great importance to you. Otherwise, we recommend spending a little bit more on a product like the EcoSmart ECO or the Rheem RTEX which are more efficient and reliable and will deliver more long-term value.
